“If it’s not here, then where? If it’s not now, then when? If it
wouldn’t be you, then who?” This shuffle of words can usually be heard from
those people who are trying to be a part of the political history. Somehow,
these mysterious taglines seldom affect the people’s aptitude in making
decisions on how they will spend their costly votes. But how? I believe that
each of us has the freedom to choose a trustworthy leader that would lead us in
highways. But how? How can we opt and identify who among of those persons is
qualified to be a man of dignity and faithfulness that may lead us to
prosperity and happiness?
Once, I’ve used to be a part of one of the party lists to be nominated
for the supreme student government. At first, I find it blissful because of the
countless appreciations and popularity that I’ve gained for every four cornered
room that we’ve entered. I’ve enjoyed it so much. Even with the cruel tiredness
that I’ve obtained, unexplainable joy was spoken by mouth. It is my mindset
that politics is just for fun. It is just for happiness and satisfaction. It is
just for the acceptance and fame. But as the time goes by, as I understood the
meaning and significance of the government, there’s a question that is playing
on my innocent mind over, and over, and again. That question? That question is,
“How about my future?”
Some people states that future depends on how the world responds to
various things that is continuously occurring in different places with such
different ways. But, what’s that world? Is it literally the earth with an orbit
and is finishing its revolution around the sun in just 365 ¼ days? No! I
believe it’s not! I believe that the world is the one who has the power of
supervision over all the things here on earth. And what was that? It is the
government. How the government responds to various things that is continuously
occurring in different places with such different ways. And as a part of the
land of the world, it is our duty to place responsible leaders that would take
the world to the so called prosperity.
Yes, they have various style of candidacy. Sometimes, they can use the
media to attract people, with the support of the renowned stars. Even those
good deeds that they are publicizing as those politicians relentlessly put
their names to the merchandises that they freely and willingly offer. Even to
those several missions such that medical missions, school missions, church
helps and many more. We can also perceive those countless stickers, tarpaulins,
and gigantic billboards, placed anywhere and are all printed with such warm
political names. It is really heartwarming when they tend to convey us their
brilliant and striking plans for their term days. It seemed perfect! And
nothing, even a bit unwanted things were included in their platforms. But for
me, those styles are all unwanted. What can a sticker do for my future? How can
colorful and large tarpaulins contribute to my tomorrow? How can those gigantic
billboards lend a hand for the earth’s people to attain a strappingly built
days that are yet to come?
But then, I could appreciate those aspirants’ sacrifices during the
campaign days because likewise, I have experienced those respected usage of
time, effort, possessions and strength just to take the bacon home. I could
also understand the discouragement that the losers feel, because I also
experience how to lose. It is really heartbreaking, depressing, disappointing
that I really have to come to my mind and said, “I’ve failed.”
As I walk through these nasty world held by the hand of the
government, I never tend to see their works. I never mind to hear them speak. I
never make myself a fan of their plans. But I sincerely bend my eyes, and my
mind, just to see their hearts. The heart with a passion to serve the people of
all nations. The heart with a fire to see a nation being lifted up. The heart
with the love for all its fellowmen. And the heart with a faith that God would
always be in all their ways.
Choosing a leader is not just because they are affluent, they are
prominent, they are good looking, or even just because they we’re always seen
at the media ranges. Selecting the best leaders is a mind blowing burden. They
have different personalities, they have different style of candidacy, and they
have different platforms presented. Whom shall I trust? Who? Whom shall I
trust?
I believe that the best thing to do is to pray about it. A prayer for
all those aspirant leaders to be just and worthy to have the sympathy of the
countrymen not just because they have their possession in their palms but
because they have an unconditional love in their hearts. I believe that
everything in this world might fail us, but, God, He will never do so. If your
hearts grow weary, then lend it all unto Him, and He will assuredly provide you
all the wisdom, a wisdom of a very prudent man to choose God-fearing leaders
who has a fewer probability of being crooked, a falsifier, and unfaithful, and
as well, a wisdom that can answer your question, “Who? Who must be the one?”
A quotation from a simple but a very wise man, the former
president of the United States of America, John F. Kennedy, “Let us not seek the Republican
answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix
the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future.”
Right answers came from the right decisions. Right decisions came
from choosing the righteous stuff. Righteous things necessitate great
responsibilities. And great responsibilities might be the key for prosperity.
Let us strive to seek the right answers. Do not focus on blaming
the past! Let us now accept our conscientiousness, for the future, betterment,
and for the progression for the next generation!
